Minister for Home Mrs Sabitha Indra Reddy on Friday said the government would extend all help and support the family members of Anusha, who was attacked by a stalker at Lalithanagar in Rajamundry in East Godavari district on Thursday.
Expressing serious concern over attacks on women, the Home Minister said that the state government would take firm action against Rajesh, who attacked the girl with a knife for spurning his advances. She said that the government would bear the burden of studies for Anusha’s sisters and would help the family members financially also.
She called upon the anti-ragging committee members to act against such incidents. The government would enact a special law to prevent such incidents in the state, she disclosed. She said the people should react strongly against such incidents. “It is responsibility of people to react strongly against such incidents. Then only the government can prevent and make stern laws,” she added.
To prevent such incidents, the government would conduct counseling in colleges with experts, psychologists and police officials, she added. She said there was no irresponsibility on the part of police side in the incident. The police acted swiftly and registered a case.
Meanwhile, the victim Anusha, who was undergoing treatment at Government General Hospital, while giving her statement to District Magistrate urged him to impose capital punishment for Rajesh. Student organizations and women associations staged a dharna over the incident in the city and demanded the government to take stern action against the guilty. Protesting the incident, the autorickshaw owners called for Rajamundry bundh on Friday.
The city police on Thursday night arrested Rajesh on the charge of attacking and injuring Anusha with a blade and killing her parents. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), D Janaki Matta Rajesh (25), a worker in a petty shop, allegedly went to the house of Nalla Anusha (20) in Lalithanagar at about 8.30 pm and tried to slit her throat with a blade. When her parents – Srinivas (45) and Satyavati (43) – tried to go to her rescue, Rajesh allegedly attacked them with a knife. They died on the spot.
